Soapstone
More Information
Assortment of soft natural stones consisting primarily of the mineral talc. The material is asbestos-free and can be easily shaped using simple tools.
Tools: Use files of different grades, rasp, saw, drill and finish with sandpaper. Finally, rub with beeswax oil, which penetrates the surface and highlights the colour and grain of the stone. Tip: When filing and sanding soapstone, the dust (which does not require respiratory protection) can leave a greasy residue on floors and other surfaces. You may want to place a damp terry towel under the stone while working to collect the dust.
Make small sculptures or small bowls and discover the endless possibilities of soapstone. You can choose how your little artwork looks - fine and detailed or raw and simple. If you glue the finished figure to a metal rod on a base or other surface, we recommend using a silicone-based glue that is easy to apply and lasts afterwards - e.g. Clear Multi Glue Gel. Soapstone is porous and soft, so working with soapstone is both fun and easy for children and adults
