Macramé mobile with rock crystals

Make a beautiful mobile with macramé cord and rock crystals that brings positive energy into the home. Macramé cord is beautifully knotted around bamboo rings of different sizes, with crystals added along the way. Rock crystal is associated with strength and clarity. It enhances your ability to look inwards and listen to your intuition, and is said to help improve concentration, dispel negative emotions and promote calmer sleep. The finished length of the mobile is 65 cm without the hanging cord.

How to do it

1 Cut 3 m of cord for the 15 cm bamboo ring. Tie the cord to the ring with a lark’s head knot.
2 Make a lark’s head knot on the opposite side of the ring with the cord.
3 Repeat steps 1 and 2 and place the cord close to the left and right side of the ring.
4 Continue until all cords are 6 cm wide. Finish by tying a knot and applying a dab of glue.
5 Cut off the ends.
6 Cut 5 m of cord for the 18 cm bamboo ring. Tie the cord to the ring with a lark’s head knot.
7 Secure the cord on the opposite side with a lark’s head knot.
8 Make three knots on each side. The cords should then pass through the cords on the 15 cm bamboo ring.
9 Connect the rings with a cord in each gap and make sure the cords are tight.
10 Make the 8 cm piece with cords that are 18 cm wider than the 6 cm piece in the 15 cm ring. Tie a knot, glue and cut off the ends.
11 Cut 3 x 60 cm + 1 x 50 cm cord for the crystal knot that connects the rings.
12 Double the three 60 cm cords. Tie the first cord to the bottom of the 18 cm ring with a lark’s head knot. Make a flat knot with two alternating square knots with the two other cords around the first cord.
13 Divide the cords into 3 x 2 cords. Hold one cord tightly and make a double half hitch with the other cord.
14 Make a double half hitch on the other 2x2 cords. The distance to the knot must be greater than 2 cm.
15 Stagger the next row of double half hitch knots to form a diamond pattern. The distance to the previous row should be 1-2 cm, depending on the size of the crystal.
16 Make the last and third rows of double half hitch knots staggered again to create a diamond pattern 1-2 cm below the previous row.
17 Make cords in another 15 cm bamboo ring to hang under the two rings that are braided together, with a crystal in between.
18 Thread two of the cords from the crystal knot through the bottom ring at the top.
19 Cut a 50 cm cord and make a macramé gathering knot around eight cords, i.e. the six cords from the crystal knot and the two cords wrapped around the bottom 15 cm ring.
20 Cut off the ends.
21 Make another crystal knot at the bottom of the last 15 cm ring. Make the knot in the same way as in steps 11-12.
22 Divide the cords into 3x2 cords. Hold one cord tightly and make a double half hitch knot with the other cord.
23 Make a double half hitch knot on the other 2x2 cords. The distance to the knot must be greater than 2 cm. Repeat until there are three rows as described above. Cut 50 cm of cord for gathering.
24 Make a macramé gathering knot around the six ends using a 50 cm long cord.
25 Cut the ends evenly to create a 12 cm tassel.
