How to join granny squares with a flat seam

This technique results in a nice and flat seam between the granny squares. This can be crocheted in a contrasting colour to make it more visible or in a background colour, so that blends in and becomes almost invisible, even on the back. Place two granny squares next to each other face up and crochet the two squares together using a chain stitch in the back loops.
