Symmetrical Designs decorated with handmade paper

Cut symmetrical patterns from folded construction card and decorate with patterned handmade paper. This is an ideal project for school art lessons in which symmetry, aesthetics, contrasts and personal expressions are brought into play.

How to do it Download the templates/recipes
1 Fold a piece of construction card lengthwise.
2 Draw one half of a shape against the folded edge, for example, a vase as shown in the photo. The shape should measure 24-27 cm in height.
3 Cut the shape away from the card and unfold the symmetrical design.
4 Decorate the design with handmade paper in different shapes and colours. Attach the handmade paper onto the shape using a glue stick or an E-Z runner.
5 Turn over the decorated shape and trim the excess paper protruding over the edge of the shape with a pair of scissors once the glue is dry.
6 Attach 3D glue dots onto the back of the shape in case you want a 3D effect.
7 Remove the protective paper from the 3D foam pads and attach the design onto a plain sheet of construction card or similar.
8 Display the finished designs on the wall.
