A bag for a water bottle made from leather. The rim and strap are crocheted using cotton cord and decorated with beads.

1   Select a bottle you want to use. Measure half the height of the bottle - and add 2cm to the circumference.

2   Draw around the bottom of the bottle.

3   Cut out the parts.

4   Mark the holes: the hole spacing is 1.5cm along the sides, at the ends the hole spacing is 1cm.

5   Punch the holes with revolving punch pliers.

6   Fold the leather and punch through both layers – this makes it easier to achieve the same hole spacing on both sides.

7   Ready for sewing.

8   Cut a piece of cord measuring approx. 2.5 m. Sew the sides together, starting in the second hole.

9   Insert the base.

10   Insert the needle through the bottom and pull the string tightly to make it easier to manage the leather when making the holes. Fasten the last stitch temporarily.

11   When making holes in the base, use the holes made in one end of the sewn cylinder. Make sure the bottom does not slip.

12   Sew the bottom on using buttonhole stitches.

13   Finish the last hole and tie a knot on the inside.

14   Crocheting the edge: Tie a piece of cotton cord onto the upper stitch.

15   Crochet seven chain stitches in each hole.

16   Crochet a total of three rounds.

17   Fasten the end securely.

18   For the strap; cut two pieces of cord each measuring 4.5m. Attach the swivel clasp onto the middle of the cords. Double over and tie a knot.

19   Pull a bead onto two of the cords and tie a knot.

20   Plait around the two cords – approx. 1 meter.

21   When you have plaited approx. 1 meter, tie a knot. Continue until the cords are used up. Tie a knot and then push the plait together. This will make the broad shoulder piece on the strap.

22   Push the plait together and tie a knot.

23   Attach a swivel clasp onto the other end.

24   Now plait up towards the first plait.

25   Tie the ends securely. Push the plait together as previously.

26   For the flower: cast seven chain stitches and crochet together to form a circle. Continue with 5 chain stitches – stitch down into the middle of the circle. Repeat four times and cast off.

27   Sew the flower onto the place where the plaits have been tied.

28   Finished bag and strap.

29   Cut four cords each measuring 2m. Pull them through the crocheted top piece (in and out).

30   Tie knots and attach beads. Tie knots at the ends of each cord.

31   Tie together and tighten until it fits the bottle.
