Crocheted Dog Collar

Crochet a decorative collar for your dog. The collar is crocheted in durable bamboo string, embroidered with reflective cord and decorated with tassels. The instructions are to make a size M, but you can easily adjust the length. Crochet around the clasp and finish by crocheting a strip to adjust the collar as the dog grows.

How to do it
1 Print out the instructions in PDF format found at the bottom of the page. Start with a chain stitch and crochet the first row of double crochet stitches around the clasp.
2 Crochet the collar in different colours as described in the PDF instructions. Alternately crochet the rows with double crochet stitches and long double crochet stitches, inserting the hook under the stitch and not at the top as usual.
3 Finish the collar by crocheting an end piece for the clasp. Crochet 5–25 rows, depending on whether the collar should be adjusted as the dog grows. Finished size: 40–50 cm.
4 Fold the collar to the desired length and secure with chain stitches into the collar.
5 Roll the collar into a tube and sew together with a kitchener stitch. Finished width: 1.5 cm.
6 Make a tassel by twisting bamboo string nine times around two fingers.
7 Tie the strings together with the same string used to tie the tassel to the ring.
8 Tie a gathering knot with an extra piece of string. Start by making a loop a little longer than the finished piece and wrap it around so that it ends at the loop. Fasten it off by tucking the string into the loop and tightening it to hide the ends. (Gathering knot: see idea v16098)
9 Make two tassels and tie them to the ring together with the pendant. Attach the ring to the collar.
10 Thread the needle with reflective string and sew three rows of back stitches with double thread around the collar.
