How to do it
Guide step 1
1
Select a bottle you want to use. Measure half the height of the bottle - and add 2cm to the circumference.
Guide step 2
2
Draw around the bottom of the bottle.
Guide step 3
3
Cut out the parts.
Guide step 4
4
Mark the holes: the hole spacing is 1.5cm along the sides, at the ends the hole spacing is 1cm.
Guide step 5
5
Punch the holes with revolving punch pliers.
Guide step 6
6
Fold the leather and punch through both layers – this makes it easier to achieve the same hole spacing on both sides.
Guide step 7
7
Ready for sewing.
Guide step 8
8
Cut a piece of cord measuring approx. 2.5 m. Sew the sides together, starting in the second hole.
Guide step 9
9
Insert the base.
Guide step 10
10
Insert the needle through the bottom and pull the string tightly to make it easier to manage the leather when making the holes. Fasten the last stitch temporarily.
Guide step 11
11
When making holes in the base, use the holes made in one end of the sewn cylinder. Make sure the bottom does not slip.
Guide step 12
12
Sew the bottom on using buttonhole stitches.
Guide step 13
13
Finish the last hole and tie a knot on the inside.
Guide step 14
14
Crocheting the edge: Tie a piece of cotton cord onto the upper stitch.
Guide step 15
15
Crochet seven chain stitches in each hole.
Guide step 16
16
Crochet a total of three rounds.
Guide step 17
17
Fasten the end securely.
Guide step 18
18
For the strap; cut two pieces of cord each measuring 4.5m. Attach the swivel clasp onto the middle of the cords. Double over and tie a knot.
Guide step 19
19
Pull a bead onto two of the cords and tie a knot.
Guide step 20
20
Plait around the two cords – approx. 1 meter.
Guide step 21
21
When you have plaited approx. 1 meter, tie a knot. Continue until the cords are used up. Tie a knot and then push the plait together. This will make the broad shoulder piece on the strap.
Guide step 22
22
Push the plait together and tie a knot.
Guide step 23
23
Attach a swivel clasp onto the other end.
Guide step 24
24
Now plait up towards the first plait.
Guide step 25
25
Tie the ends securely. Push the plait together as previously.
Guide step 26
26
For the flower: cast seven chain stitches and crochet together to form a circle. Continue with 5 chain stitches – stitch down into the middle of the circle. Repeat four times and cast off.
Guide step 27
27
Sew the flower onto the place where the plaits have been tied.
Guide step 28
28
Finished bag and strap.
Guide step 29
29
Cut four cords each measuring 2m. Pull them through the crocheted top piece (in and out).
Guide step 30
30
Tie knots and attach beads. Tie knots at the ends of each cord.
Guide step 31
31
Tie together and tighten until it fits the bottle.
Guide step 32
32
Attach the strap and the bag is ready for use.
Guide step 33
