A crackled patinated Look with Facetten-Lack

Crackling is a technique for obtaining the look of an antique piece of art, where the varnish has crackled over time. This is achieved by the lacquer and the paint working against each other; here with a patinated look like old varnish with Facetten Lack.

How to do it

1.   Apply a 2-4mm thick even layer of Facetten-Lack, using a spatula. Leave to dry for approx. 24 hours and the lacquer begins to crackle.

2.   Fill/rub the cracks with coloured wax, if you want the colours to show in the cracks. Use Inka-Gold and apply to only a small area at a time. See the next step.

3.   Rub off the excess Inka-Gold with a damp cloth.
