Everything We Feel – Inside and Out supports the child's emotional development in a fun and cosy way. Take a journey around the body, talk about and sense where the different emotions live — all while you collect feeling bubbles and solve various tasks together..
The game offers a fun and cosy playing experience while the whole family — children and adults alike — practises talking about and recognising their feelings, both the comfortable and the difficult ones. The long-term goal is to create a family culture where it feels natural to talk about the emotions we experience in everyday life.
The game has been developed in collaboration between Ciha and Rebus Børneformidling, with psychologist Ina Haller and illustrator Lea Letén..
The game is not about being first, but about collecting the feeling bubbles together and having meaningful conversations along the way. When all 10 feeling bubbles have been collected, the game is over.
Read through the game instructions carefully, as they provide tips and tricks for the conversation as well as follow-up questions to use while you play.
Among the 150 picture cards in the game, you will encounter tasks within the following themes:.
- What happened?
- Show a feeling.
- Guess a feeling.
- Tell about a feeling.
- Build a face.
But why is it actually important to talk with children about feelings? Because emotional development does not happen on its own. Feelings, just like language and motor skills, need to be stimulated in order to develop and "grow" — so that your children grow up with the best possible foundation for developing a balanced emotional life and a stable sense of self-worth. All feelings are good feelings – all feelings deserve space Talking about feelings is something that many people, both children and adults, can find difficult — and some may even find it uncomfortable. But everyday life is full of feelings, from the moment we wake up to the moment we go to sleep. Most of these feelings we barely notice, but the stronger ones stay with us for longer — both the pleasant ones and the uncomfortable ones. For many people, it feels easy to share when they are happy, doing well, or have experienced something fun. The harder feelings can be more difficult to talk about. But why is that? In part, it may stem from something we ourselves learned in childhood. As parents, we naturally want to protect our children, and so we sometimes try to shield them from negative feelings and experiences. However, shielding children from negative feelings can result in them developing an unhealthy relationship with those feelings. Negative feelings are completely natural, unavoidable, and a part of a healthy emotional life. An important part of emotional development is allowing children to experience all feelings and to simply feel what they feel. Negative feelings must therefore be met and acknowledged to the same degree as positive ones. In this way, children will feel understood to a far greater extent and will learn to recognise and manage all of their feelings.
